Our History
"We want to provide the best care available for the life needs of your pet."
-Dr. Leavens, Chief Medical Officer
Main Street Pet Care is a continuation of Dr. Gene Swanson's (dec.) practice that was started in 1954. Dr. Ben Leavens took over the practice in 1995 and has since focused on providing quality medicine, surgery, orthopedics/interlocking nails, and dentistry to the four states and beyond.
Our new Clinics and Hospital were finished in August 2001. In a boost to Main Street Joplin, the new facility is located inside the historic Joplin Tobacco building (formerly Charles Arbuthnot's Mercantile, circa 1910's) which was extensively renovated inside.
Indoor Parking is a feature that is appreciated by all our c lients, especially in the hot summer sun and winter snow and wind. The modern facility includes features that make it unique in the region, and in the nation, like central oxygen, modern surgery stages, hospital wards for all species seen, and a pet friendly chapel for spiritual needs of our c lients and their families.
Our Mission is to provide a loving sanctuary for the relationships between people and their pets. Our modern facility, extended hours of operation, and caring staff make our services better and more convenient than ever.
Visitors are welcome to tour our facility anytime, and Group Tours can be arranged by calling us at 417-782-7387.
